Embers

Embers (✦) are the town's money. You earn them by playing, and spend them on comforts; never on power.
Earning Embers
- You start with a kit, not with Embers: stone tools, bread, torches, a bed, a compass that always points to the town, and a welcome book; once you've confirmed the rules.
- Just by playing: about 50 ✦ an hour of real play, paid a little every few minutes. Standing AFK doesn't count, and after 30 minutes AFK you're gently kicked, for everyone.
- Selling goods at the counter in the town hall; see Selling. Up to 150 ✦ a day.
- Trading with other players;
/pay <player> <amount>.
Spending Embers
- Extra homes (from 450 ✦).
- A plot in town (1 200 ✦) or a shop in the market quarter (4 spaces are free, the others 450 ✦, the three ready-built shops 1 500 ✦), at the plot clerk in the town hall (
/plot). - Town palette blocks at the town hall (
/palette). - The trades at the back of the town hall: the smith mends your gear; hold it, bring the metal, a few Embers, and even what the anvil calls too expensive; the engraver puts a name in colour or a line on an item (
/engrave); the cartographer sells a map of the town and a map of this season's Diggings. - Chipping in to a server goal.
Your balance
Embers are a balance, not coins: /balance (or /bal) shows it, /pay sends Embers to another player. The service counters; selling goods, buying homes, plots and shops, palette blocks, the server goal, and the trades; are all together on the ground floor of the town hall, on the square.
What Embers are not
Embers are never sold, not by the server, not in the store. Embers have no real-money value. They can't be sold, cashed out, or traded for real money, and trading real money for Embers or items between players isn't allowed.
